DR. DAVE'S FITNESS FACTS

Should You Eat Before or After Exercising?
by Dr. David Williams

Meals eaten less than an hour before exercise can cause an upset stomach. During exercise blood is diverted away from the stomach to the working muscles. The food in the stomach is not as easily broken down and this can lead to discomfort.

Metabolism is raised after exercise and the body is able to break down food slightly faster. Glucose (blood sugar) is more likely to be stored as glycogen (energy stored in muscle) and not as fat.
