THANK YOU! Thank you to the wonderful volunteers and particpants who made the first annual Mansfield Autism Fun Run a success. See you next year! Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically begins around age two and lasts throughout a person's lifetime. Today, one in 150 children suffer from autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. Symptoms can range from mild to quite severe. Currently, there are no effective means to prevent autism, no fully effective treatments, and no cure. However, research indicates that early intervention in an appropriate therapeutic and educational setting can result in significant improvements for many young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Unfortunately, these programs are very costly. The average family spends between $30,000 - 70,000 annually on therapies. The majority of these costs are not covered under insurance plans, so the family must bear the financial responsibility. In an effort to support these families, Get Fit With Dave is organizing a Fun Run on September 29, 2007 at Rose Park in Mansfield. The 2-mile event is open to everyone of all ages. I am asking for your support by either participating in the run/walk, making a financial contribution or becoming a corporate sponsor to this event. Your donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be mailed to you. This is a great marketing opportunity for you, a way to give back to the community, and a wonderful chance for autistic children to benefit from your generosity. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your support. Sincerely,
